Funds and Asset Management
The European landscape for funds and fund management companies has changed dramatically over the recent years with the enactment of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) which essentially categorised funds into UCITS funds (in relation to which specific EU wide legislation is in place) and Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) and their respective fund management companies are equally categorised into UCITS fund managers and AIFMs, the latter being further categorised into those falling within the scope of the AIFMD and those falling outside its scope, more commonly referred to as de minimis fund managers.
At Camilleri Cassar Advocates, we specialise in assisting clients in selecting and obtaining their required license as well as providing advice to funds and fund management companies on their ongoing regulatory and licensing obligations (including where necessary the redomiciliation of funds into Malta) as well as their corporate and commercial affairs. We act as company secretary and legal advisor to a number of funds and asset managers based in Malta advising them on an array of matters, including their financing, corporate and regulatory affairs.
